LMS adaptive filtering algorithm: first or unique one for practical applications?

Abstract 
 The paper considers LMS adaptive filtering algorithm, which is widely used in practical applications from its invention to nowadays. Main steps of the algorithm development and its properties are shown. Normalized, variable stepsize and linearly constrained versions of the LMS algorithm are presented. Software tools for the algorithm simulation, algorithm implementation in modern FPGA and DSP are discussed.
